Keg Power Presses build explosive forward pushing strength from the standing position

You should be doing them. It will be pretty rare when you're ever pushing something or someone away from you while you're lying on your back. Power needs to be transfered through your feet. With an exercise like this you're also constantly engaging your grip which is also important for developing strength you can control. Pushing and pulling ability becomes more balanced as well.
You can read more about Keg Power Presses in Keg Conditioning by Dave Lemanczyk which is a book I highly recommend.

  1. I've been interested in the movement but it doesn't look like something that could really be implemented with other objects.

  2. You can do it with any object. I've done it with a cannon ball before. That being said, a keg probably works better for it than anything else. Your shoulders will be in a shitty position a barbell and your grip and wrist stability will limit you with a sandbag. Sandbag is probably the next best thing though behind a keg. Just don't go overboard on the weight at first. If you can, use a smaller bag than the typical army duffel bag that everyone uses. I've got some canvas around here somewhere that my wife is eventually going to sew into a small sandbag for me. Something like 15-25 lbs.
I don't know how much the keg in that video weighs. It's not empty but it's not full either.

  3. Sounds good. I'm actually lined up to put together a sandbag loadable up to 300 lbs next month. I'm going to throw it in the backyard and wrap it in tarp for the shit weather.

  4. Glen, I appreciate the shout my friend. Your effort is fierce and consistent. For those that read, the power press is the obvious choice for shoving power on two feet. You will build power to knock a person off two feet with ease while building more of a balance in your shoulder girdles supporting tissues. There's obvious grips strength benefits!
